A Wedding Setting: Confetti Extravaganza! Part Deux

Hello lovelies! Welcome to part two of our three-part Wedding Setting: Confetti Extravaganza! I looooove this movie! Confetti should be a part of every bride-to-be’s movie playlist! We kick off today with Confetti’s musical-themed wedding. While I LOVE this theme, it would definitely take a super-special couple to pull it off. Read on for musical, wedding awesomeness!

Confetti wedding inspiration board

Confetti is a British mockumentary about three couples who won their dream wedding through a magazine contest. In true British form each wedding is horridly themed (there’s a tennis, musical and nudist wedding — you heard right, NUDIST) and hilarity ensues as everything that could possibly go wrong, does.

With hues of pink, black and silver, this singing-dancing wedding is just BURSTING with glamour. This palette would be fabulous for any bride with a flair for Hollywood.

Make sure to check back for part trois (it’s the NUDIST wedding!) of our Wedding Setting: Confetti series!

Happy Monday lovelies! I have been planning this post for months and I am SOOOOO excited to finally share with you! If you’ve never seen Confetti you need to drop everything and watch it NOW! I had a few movies on rotate while I was in the midst of wedding planning, and I swear to you I watched this movie monthly. I freakin’ love it!

We kick off this special three-part Wedding Setting with Confetti’s tennis-themed wedding. With obvious pops of yellow and green, this wedding is bursting with color and sporty-style. Although this theme might be a bit too literal for an actual wedding, we think this would be an awesome bridal shower theme for the tennis-loving bride. You could even take the girls out for a private tennis lesson … read on for tennis-awesomeness! And make sure to check back for part deux and trois of our Wedding Setting: Confetti series!

A Wedding Setting:
Gentlemen Prefer Blondes

Gentlemen Prefer Blondes wedding inspiration board

Today I pay homage to one of my favorite movies of all time, Gentlemen Prefer Blondes. Whether you’re in the mood for a chick flick or a comedy, or just yearning for some eye candy, this movie has something for everyone.

The special relationship between best friends Lorelei and Dorothy reminds me of the special bond between the bride and maid of honor. Even though this wedding theme is a bit flashy for the average groom, if all else fails, it would be the PERFECT inspiration for your bachelorette party or bridal shower.

Out of all the movie stars to emulate as a bride, wouldn’t Marilyn Monroe just be the perfect fit? She’s the perfect combination of gorgeous, hyper feminine and slightly mysterious. Her iconic “Hollywood meets girl next door” style would be perfect for your wedding day.

A Wedding Setting:
Grey Gardens (Part 2)

Grey Gardens wedding inspiration board

Good morning lovelies! I hope you all had a wonderful Easter! We kick off this week with the second part of our Grey Gardens Wedding Setting. It’s only fitting that this documentary turned blockbuster be split into two separate posts, as Grey Gardens itself focuses on the “before & after” lives of little and big Edie Bouvier Beale.

Both of the Beale’s choices in fashion and lifestyle dramatically change as time goes by. For today’s Wedding Setting, we focus on the bright, bold color choices of early little and big Edie. During the 30s’ and 40s’ they sport rich, textured classic pieces to form a true “upper class” vintage style. This falls to the wayside later as their style morphs to more earthy/hippie undertones with a grunge twist.

With such a gorgeous setting, complex-yet-lovable female characters, and an awesome color palette to boot, we think this movie is the perfect inspiration for any documentary, vintage-loving bride.

A Wedding Setting: Chocolat

Chocolat wedding inspiration board

Let me break this movie down for you. Johnny Depp  + a quaint French town + chocolate = one of my favorite movies of all time. Maybe it’s the gorgeous country side or my love for all things sweet, but Chocolat was just BEGGING to be my inspiration for today’s Wedding Setting!

With its beautiful, rich browns and bright, vibrant hues of red and turquoise (plus Euro vintage 1960s’ fashion) we think this wedding inspiration board would make a great jumping-off point for your Chocolat-themed wedding!

A Wedding Setting:
Grey Gardens (the remake)

A Wedding Setting Grey Gardens inspiration board

There are few movie remakes that I love as much as Grey Gardens. This documentary turned blockbuster is filled with gorgeous comparisons of the bright and muted, clean and dirty, happy and sad times found at Grey Gardens in the East Hamptons.

For today’s Wedding Setting, I decided to focus on the muted, aged color scheme of late Little and Big Edie. I love this film so much I might just do another post featuring the early years at the Grey Gardens estate.

With a such gorgeous setting, complex-yet-lovable female characters, and an awesome color palette to boot, we think this movie is the perfect inspiration for any documentary, vintage-loving bride.

A Wedding Setting: Dreamgirls

Dreamgirls wedding inspiration board

Dreamgirls is one of those movies that I wish I could jump through my TV set and live in! I just swoon for retro, mod 50s and 60s style, and this movie has got plenty of it. Plus, a little dose of Jamie Foxx never hurt anyone either. :)

We think this beautifully styled movie is the PERFECT wedding inspiration for any vintage-loving bride. With gorgeous deep purples and rich, creamy neutrals, this just might be my favorite Wedding Setting yet.

A Wedding Setting: Tangled

Tangled wedding inspiration board

I love this movie. Correction: I freakin’ love this movie. I love this movie an entirely inappropriate amount for my age. I mean, she’s a princess who defends herself with a cast iron skillet. That. Is. Rad. Way better than Cinderella.  In every other Disney movie, the prince and princess first meet when the silly princess gets herself into trouble and he saves her. Or, even better, they just LOOK at each other and know their love is forever. Rapunzel sees her prince break into her tower and knocks the bastard out. Twice. That is my kind of princess.

And on one of the most special days of your life, wouldn’t you just LOVE to walk down the isle with a heap of Rapunzel’s confidence and attitude? She wouldn’t steer you wrong. Use today’s Wedding Setting as inspiration for your Tangled themed wedding!

A Wedding Setting:
Breakfast at Tiffany’s

Breakfast at Tiffany's Wedding Setting

Don’t you just LOVE Breakfast at Tiffany’s? It the perfect antidote for any ailment: A broken heart, a sore throat, or a Walmart checker mistakenly calling you ‘sir’ (true story). Whatever the reason, there’s just something about this movie that makes everything seem alright.

Maybe it’s the glamour of Audrey Hepburn, or the fact that she managed to turn the ‘walk of shame’ into a classy affair (granted, she was wearing a black ball gown with pearls and not a slutty ‘CEOs and Office Hoes’ costume … just sayin’), but even after 50 years this movie has managed to cling to its role as a female power flick.

It’s for this very reason that I think Breakfast at Tiffany’s makes the PERFECT inspiration for this week’s Wedding Setting. Who wouldn’t want to walk down the isle beaming with Holly Golightly’s beauty and poise? Use this wedding inspiration board to help plan your big day!

A Wedding Setting:
Something’s Gotta Give

Wedding setting inspiration board

I want to live inside this movie (minus the sex-crazed older man). I have been enamored with this house in the Hamptons since the first time I saw Something’s Gotta Give in theaters. Diane Keaton and Jack Nicholson are the perfect pair in this quirky “second-time around” romantic comedy.  With both characters far into their successful careers (hence, with extra money to spend), this movie is full of beach-house opulence. An opulence that would be PERFECT for any beach or country club wedding, don’t you think?

Use this wedding inspiration board to help plan your beach-themed big day!

A Wedding Setting:
The Bodyguard

Wedding setting inspiration board

Don’t even pretend like you aren’t singing “I Will Always Love You” in your head right now, because if you are anything like me, you LOVE this movie and will “alllways looooooooove” this movie for the rest of your life. So, this week’s Wedding Setting is for every one of the 44 million people who bought this album (making The Bodyguard the best-selling soundtrack of all time) and can sing every song by heart.

The Bodyguard melds the style of a larger-than-life super star and her humble(ish) real-world life. Naturally, I am choosing to base this wedding setting off of Rachel Marron’s edgy, ’90s pop-star fashion while mixing in a few modern wedding touches. Read on for a wedding inspiration board for the record books!

A Wedding Setting:
Father of the Bride (redux)

Father of the Bride wedding inspiration board

If you’re in the midst of planning a wedding you’ve probably noticed that all of a sudden EVERYTHING you read or watch must be wedding related. I think I watched The Wedding Planner 20 times in a period of six months. Seriously. Not kidding. Wish I was. But I’m not.

Being a Daddy’s girl myself, Father of the Bride was one of the first movies in my “wedding-psychosis-playlist.” It’s the classic “daughter (Annie Banks) gets engaged, Dad practically kills himself trying to afford the wedding and a straight-pretending-to-be-gay actor plays a quirky wedding planner” story. Then hilarity ensues while everything that could possibly go wrong, does. Finally, there is a clearing in the clouds and it looks like the wedding might actually happen! The suspense! The build up! And then the camera pans to the ceremony. And you just can’t help but think …

DIZAAAAAAAMN ANNIE, THAT WEDDING IS UGLY! I mean, they had swans. Freakin’ SWANS.

Yep. This was a movie from the early 90s. A wedding-time-period with puffy sleeves, lace EVERYWHERE and pink to the max (we’re talking Pepto-style, baby). This was a time when decorating meant stuffing flowers into a T-shirt cannon and shooting them all over the room until every surface was covered with roses and baby’s breath.

So, before the year is out, as a 20th Anniversary gift to our dear Annie Banks, I decided to make this week’s wedding inspiration board an updated, modern take on her 1991 Father of the Bride wedding. We hope this makes you and your dad proud, Annie.

A Wedding Setting:
Harold and Maude

Harold and Maude wedding inspiration board

Ahhh, inappropriate love. There’s nothing better.  Can you imagine Harold falling in love with a 20-something, blonde college chick? Hells to the nah. Enter Maude, a 79-year-old kook with a fabulous sense of humor … NOW you’ve got a great love story.

Harold and Maude is a true cult movie from the 70s. If you haven’t seen it, you should immediately. Picture The Graduate if it was directed by the dark and twisted Tim Burton. THAT’S Harold and Maude.
AWE to the SOME!

The dark, gothic side of Harold mixed with the crazy, bright side of Maude  – and all set within the 1970s — would make a fabulously styled period-themed wedding.  Read on for two Harold and Maude themed wedding inspiration boards!

Thelma and Louise Bachelorette Party

Thelma & Louise wedding inspiration board

Is there ANY girl power movie better than Thelma and Louise? I mean, these bitches are TOTAL badasses.

So, in the name of besties everywhere I have decided to do a spin off of this week’s wedding setting and do a bachelorette party setting instead! You could definitely still style a wedding off this theme, but I think the “girl-power-drive-off-a-cliff” message might get lost while you vow your undying love for a man. Unless, you vow your undying love for another woman, in which case this would be the PERFECT theme for your wedding!

I love this theme because you can take it to both extremes of appropriate and still have a great time.
Make it demure and have a Thelma and Louise bridal shower with Mexican food and cowboy boots
-OR- rent a convertible with your best friends and get twirled around by a cowboy stripper named Cash. Win and DOUBLE win.

So girls, kick off your boots and read on for lots of fun Thelma & Louise party inspiration! (And don’t miss our freebie announcement below, either.)

These kick-ass girls conform to two style-themes: dusty-denim, and a more bright, Mexican-influenced theme. I am so completely in love with each one so I decided to build two different inspiration boards based on each theme. Pick your favorite or blend them both, but either way your bachelorette party will SCREAM southwestern girl power.
