Best of all, our invitation suites adhere to the “broke bride” standard we live by here at MarryThis! Our printable invitation suites are only $30, and personalized Save the Dates are just $20. By purchasing a printable, you are buying the personalized design file (.JPG or .PDF), that you will then print yourself using a home printer or professional printer of your choice.

Printing wedding invitations yourself is a great way to save a little extra money in your wedding budget. Email me if you need any help with printing, or check out our printing  FAQ page (note that not all designs will be best when printed the same way).

Would you rather have a one stop shop? We offer printing services too! We’ll send you a personalized file for your approval, and then print and mail the invitations to your home. All of our wedding stationery is digitally flat printed. We use 100# cover stock – a thick, heavyweight paper. We offer both Uncoated Smooth and Linen paper textures. Visit the shop for a list of prices.

Wedding Guests You
Should Never Invite

Today I’m taking a break from the usual wedding decor/fashion chat for a small venting session.

There are no steadfast rules as to who you should and shouldn’t invite to your wedding, except this: If you have ANY doubt that the invitee will RSVP “yes” but then flake out and stand you up, don’t invite them. Yes, it’s a bit harsh. No, you will probably not regret it.

Wedding guests you should never invite {via Oh So Beautiful Paper}

“No shows” plague almost every wedding, and frankly, it’s just downright insulting.
Consider this a PSA: Wedding guests … if you RSVP’d “yes” to a wedding you MUST go.

Unless you’re sick, or your car broke down on the way to the wedding, or you just went into labor. Then you get a pass. Otherwise you’re just being a douche.

Why? Because weddings are expensive. Weddings are SO expensive that we have devoted an entire blog to ideas for how to plan weddings that AREN’T expensive. And you being “not in the mood to go” or “not wanting to drive that far” is literally costing the bride and groom (who are presumably your friends or family members) hundreds of dollars. What a nice wedding gift.

Even though I was married almost two years ago, this topic STILL makes me mad. We had an entire TABLE of people who RSVP’d “yes” but then didn’t show. When all was said and done, our budget wedding cost around $160 per person. Those 5 empty chairs cost us $800. Money of which NO ONE enjoyed.

We could have spent an extra three days on our honeymoon. We could have applied that money toward a downpayment on our first home. The point is … no one likes to waste money – especially if you have none.

So, next time you RSVP to a wedding make sure you actually go. Or if something comes up, just let the bride and groom know! No-shows happen, but it shouldn’t be inevitable.

What about you brides? Do you have any horrible RSVP stories? Did you have any strategies for who you did/didn’t invite? Let’s use this post as a chance to vent.

Happy Wednesday! XO, Allison

Trend: RSVP online
vs. snail mail?

online rsvp print rsvp

I recently just received my first RSVP online-only wedding invitation. And I have to say, it was kind of nice.

I do see the benefits of using an online RSVP for a wedding. It saves money and trees since you don’t have to deal with printed RSVP cards, envelopes and stamps. And with more couples directing guests to their wedding websites to convey travel and party details, it seems more natural for guests to respond electronically since all the other event information is online.

However, as a girl who still loves sending out thank you cards through the good old postal service, I wonder if the online RSVP takes away from the tradition of wedding invitations. I love the idea of sending out a cohesive and formal invitation suite that includes a printed RSVP card and a stamped pre-addressed envelope. Plus, printed RSVP cards ensure that your non-savvy technological guests can respond, like your dear old granny or the eccentric uncle who lives on a commune.

What do you think, brides? Are you all about directing your guests online to RSVP for the big day or do you prefer the response via the old-fashioned stamped envelope?

Introducing Guide 03:
Bright British Pop Wedding

A Bright British Pop Free Wedding Guide Wedding planning guides Wedding planning ideas

If you know any of us personally, you have to know how excited we are to launch this new guide — it’s nothing but lots of fun, bright color and a big sense of humor. It might be our favorite MarryThis! guide yet.

Wedding planning ideas

The inspiration for this wedding came from Kimberly Brandt at Billede Design, who dreamed it up. She calls it “Jonathan Adler meets the Sex Pistols” and we couldn’t agree more. She takes wild 80s color and energy from the Brits and modernizes it with a classy edge. She’s just that good. Frankly, no words are going to tell you how cool it is. So just download a free copy for yourself and you can see.

Wedding planning ideas

Since our guides are way more in-depth than our blog, they’re the best way to dig into budget wedding planning in a fun way. What are you waiting for?

This for That:
Letterpress vs. Digital

Budget Wedding Ideas

Oh, letterpress. Sigh. I don’t know if you’ve ever held beautiful letterpress in your hands. It’s gorgeous. It’s a specialty process that makes each piece feel handcrafted. But as with many really beautiful things, there’s a high price to pay for it. Letterpress wedding invitations can cost upwards of $20 per invitation! If you’re a budget bride, your wedding dollar needs to be spent on something a bit more pragmatic.

But never fear, budget bride! Some of the best wedding invitation designers out there feel your pain and know you’re not going to be able to afford it. That’s why some offer digital printing, even sometimes using the same designs as their fancier letterpress editions.

The above invite on the left is letterpress. It’s hard to make my point when you’re looking at an image and not feeling its cottony softness between your fingers, but it’s a fab invitation. Fab, but not a reality at $21.60 per card. However, bless the crew over at Hello!Lucky — they offer the same invitation design, digitally printed, for $4.20 per card (picture on the right). That’s less than a quarter of the price for each invite, and if you’re sending 100 of them, it adds up to $1,740.

Budget Wedding Ideas

For bonus points and to pocket even more money, check out invitations that you can purchase as a printable and take care of the printing on your own. We like Love vs. Design or *ahem* our own MarryThis! printable sets. Now you’re saving some serious cash.

Freebie Friday! Thelma & Louise Party Invitation

Thelma & Louise Bachelorette party free invitation

If you’re looking for the perfect theme for a bitchin’ bachelorette/bridal party, look no further! This freebie was inspired by our bright and fun Thelma & Louise Bachelorette Party Inspiration board we featured earlier this week. We even made two different color schemes for you to choose from. There ain’t nothin’ better than two country chicks kickin’ ass and we think this “girl power” theme would be perfect for your party. Let’s just try to avoid driving off a cliff at the end of the night.

Besides being free, these invitations are also totally customizable. Just download, open in Adobe Reader, pick your favorite color scheme (or use both!), and fill in your information. If you don’t have Adobe Reader, download it for free here. This is a safe and secure download.

For best quality, print these invitations on white or cream heavy cardstock. If you are mailing your invitations we recommend using these square envelopes from Paper Source as a perfect compliment to this invitation. Additional postage may be necessary.

Now that you’ve got some inspiration, grab your bestie’s and hit the town running! We hope you love these invitations as much as we do!

DIY Invitation Calligraphy

DIY Wedding Invitation Calligraphy

Even the most beautiful wedding invitations can turn drab with a computer addressed label slapped on the front. Unfortunately, most couples consider hand-addressing invitations a very time-consuming and unnecessary task.

I admit that when I was sending out my wedding invitations I was tempted to join the dark side. But, once I realized how long it would take to computerize all of my family and friend’s contact information just to make the labels, I decided to bite the bullet and give calligraphy a try. And, do you know what? It was FUN! Think back to 3rd grade when you were practicing your cursive. Except now you can watch trashy reality TV and drink booze while you do it. Calligraphy WIN!

Use this simple calligraphy guide to make your invitations a hit!
(Warning: DON’T wear nice clothes while doing this, and DON’T try this after getting a manicure.)

Supplies:
• Pen holder
• Artisan Calligraphy Pen Point nibs (the finer the better)
• Waterproof calligraphy ink or colored India Ink
• Envelopes

How to:
• First, insert the nib of your choice into the calligraphy pen.
• Next, dip your pen into the ink. The tip of your nib makes very thin lines. Apply more pressure for thicker lines. Practice different pressures on a test envelope first.
• Because everyone has a unique writing style, practicing is also a great way to learn how often you will need to re-dip your pen.

Tips:
• Only apply pressure on downward strokes.
• Unless you wash your pen immediately, this waterproof ink may be difficult to clean off. Try rinsing your nib with soap and water. If that doesn’t work, good ol’ Windex will do the trick. Just make sure to wash off your nib afterwards and let it fully dry before using it again.
• Keep a paper towel nearby for accidental messes.
• Choose a heavy, smooth, non-textured envelope. The rougher your surface, the harder it will be for a beginner to get smooth, beautiful lines.
• White and metallic inks look best on dark envelopes. Otherwise, stick to black unless you can find a thick, colored ink. Most colored ink is a little thinner in consistency so it takes a more skilled hand to get even color.
• To save time, write only your recipient’s name in script and print the address.
• Keep your lines straight by using a ruler to draw light pencil lines where the address will go.
• Be mindful of your kerning, the space between each letter. Keep each space even for
a more professional look.

Troubleshooting:
If you are getting ink blobs it is most likely because you are loading your nib with too much ink. Try loading your tip with the squeeze dropper (attached to the lid of your ink) instead of dipping your pen directly into the ink. Drop a small amount of ink onto the ridge of your nib to reload. Tap the nib on the rim of the ink bottle before writing to shake off any big ink drops waiting to ruin your beautiful envelopes.

FREE font cheat sheets:
Don’t like your handwriting? No fear! I’ve made 3 FREE font sheets for you to reference and mimic. Print out your favorite font and keep it nearby while you’re addressing envelopes. Eventually you will be able to write without the font sheet. If you’re still nervous, trace the lettering onto your first few envelopes with light pencil. Once you are satisfied, ink over with your calligraphy pen and erase your pencil marks once the ink is dry.

Use these tips and you will be a pro in no time. Not to mention, you could save up to $500! Professional addressing can cost up to $2 per invitation (I know, CRAZY!). Believe me, at the end of the day, you would much rather have spent that money on your honeymoon instead.

Happy addressing, friends!
