Happy almost weekend! Our free printable today is something that is usually forgotten about until the day before the wedding … a cute directional ‘wedding this way’ sign! And it’s your lucky day because you can grab this beauty for free! Just download, print and hang !

This sign is formatted to print on letter-sized 8.5 x 11 paper. We recommend printing on white or cream heavy cardstock. If there’s any chance of inclement weather on your big day, make sure to cover the sign to keep the ink from fading or running. An easy solution would be to apply clear contact paper to each side, or have the signs laminated at your local office supply store.

It seems as if spring has finally stuck, so this week we celebrate Freebie Friday with a fun, geometric wedding centerpiece (with free printable table numbers) inspired by the beautiful foliage of spring and Sara’s awesome DIY Geometric Painted Pots tutorial last week.

And do you want to know the best part? This entire centerpiece cost me LESS THAN ONE DOLLAR (as long as you don’t mind being a branch thief – which I don’t). Here’s how:

I found this funky “top” vase at a thrift store for a whopping 75 cents, but any short glass container will work. Look at your local thrift store or dollar store. In our cheap opinions, if you’re paying more than a $1 for a vase, you’re doing it wrong.

I filled my vase with beautiful cherry bllossom branches from a tree outside my front door. Next, download your free geometric table numbers (1-20). For best results, print on white or cream heavy card stock. Poke a small hole in the top of your table number and tie it to a branch using whatever you have around the house. I actually used dental floss.

We hope you like this spring-inspired wedding centerpiece as much as we do! Just in time for Easter, we think this would also be a fantastic, easy centerpiece for your Sunday dinner. We would love to hear what you think in a comment below! :)

Freebie Friday! Charity Favors for Fashionistas

Happy Friday, friends! This is the third installment of our Charity Wedding Favors series, and I have been SO excited to share this favor with you! Today’s favor will keep your guests’ tootsies warm AND benefit your community. After all, what better way to celebrate your love than by spreading it around?

I, for one, am NOT a fan of monogrammed or personalized wedding favors. Personally, I would rather spend money on something my wedding guests would actually use. Like socks. Everyone wears socks. 

These adorable sock balls are perfect for the practical, fashionista bride and are to be accompanied by a donation to your local Dress for Success outlet. If you’ve never heard of Dress for Success, it is a WONDERFUL charity that gives business suits to disadvantaged women to help them during job interviews. There is most likely a center in your area.

Never fear, budget brides! Not only are these favors super cute, they were also REALLY inexpensive. Read on for the how-to and a price breakdown!

Fashionista Charity Favor

What you need:

  • Socks (both men’s and women’s — have a guest list before you start shopping)
  • Shoelaces (in matching colors)
  • White heavy cardstock
  • Sewing pins (optional)

1. Download your free, ”Dress for Success” charity tag printable. Customize and cut out each tag and set aside. Would you rather donate to a different charity? No problem! Visit our printing FAQ page to learn how to add the charity of your choice to the printable in Adobe Reader (it’s easy!).

2. Get a pair of socks. Turn one of the socks inside out (photo 1). Stuff the inside-out sock into the other sock.

3. Start at the ankle and roll both socks together outward (photo 2). Roll for a few inches and then pull the remainder of the sock (that isn’t rolled) to keep your ball tight and uniform. Roll and pull until you get to the end of your sock (photo 3). A small piece will be leftover, but don’t worry! That will be the bottom of your favor.

4. Tie a bow around your sock ball with a shoelace (photo 4). Just wrap the sock how you would wrap a present. I had to wrap my shoelace around an extra time so the tails weren’t too long.

5. Slide the corner of the printable under the bow’s knot. Secure with a sewing pin (optional). I would definitely recommend this extra step if you are transporting and placing these favors out yourself.

Cost Breakdown:

One of the BEST parts about this favor is the cost. Or should I say, lack of cost. I bought all of my socks at the dollar store. YUP. The dollar store. And you know what? They weren’t made of gross or cheap material either (I was just as shocked as you)! Here’s the scoop:

  • Pair of Socks: $1
  • Shoelace: $2 for 2 pairs (4 laces total)
  • White cardstock: .25 cents per sheet (12 tags on a sheet)

Grand total per favor: $1.52! (And your guests won’t just throw them away when they get home!)

I hope you love these charity wedding favors as much as I do! For me, the best part is that this favor can work for ALL of your guests … men, women AND kids!

We loved yesterday’s guest post from Marisa aka The Food-Sensitive Foodie about how to cater to your guests who have food allergies. It only takes one double dip of a chip to put your best friend into anaphylactic shock, so being a sensitive host is not only kind, but your family and friends will appreciate the gesture.

We decided to take Marisa’s advice up a notch and create these food allergy place cards. We know you can’t cater your reception menu to every food allergy, but you can help your guests out by letting them know what dishes to avoid. These cards cover most of the common food allergies, along with options for vegetarians and diabetics.

Feel free to use either or both of our place card options. In a buffet style meal, you can use one place card to check off the “free of” foods and set the cards in front of serving dishes. Or with a seated dinner, put the appropriate card in front of the guests who you know are allergic to just dairy, gluten, shellfish, etc. (And extra bonus points if you put the “I’m free of… nuts” card in front of your obnoxious uncle.)

Day Cake Pop Favors

Happy Friday, friends! In celebration of St. Patty’s Day tomorrow I thought it would be fun to feature a SUPER easy and inexpensive “Lucky in Love” cake pop wedding favor (with a free printable, of course)! These cake pops are so tasty and adorable I’m guessing most of your guests will have finished theirs before they even get their salad. 

As with all of our frugal favors, the BEST part is its cost. At around $10 per batch (each batch makes 30-40 pops), these favors come in as low as .33 cents a piece. Not too shabby. Lay a cake pop on each place setting OR use these as your dessert and nix the wedding cake all together. Now THAT’S budget friendly.

St. Patty’s Day Cake Pop Favors

What you need:

  • Pre-baked and pre-decorated cake pops
  • Small clear plastic treat bags
  • Twist ties, cut in half
  • White or cream heavy cardstock
  • X-Acto knife
  • 2″ scalloped-edge punch
  • Emerald green ribbon

1. Download your free St. Patrick’s Day cake pop printables. Customize and cut out each tag using the scalloped-edge paper punch. You could also nix the scallop and cut them out by hand. Never used our printables before? Visit our printing FAQ page to learn how to add your own initials to the printables in Adobe Reader (it’s easy!).

2. Assemble your pre-baked cake pops. I followed this recipe, except I used green and white candy melts instead of almond bark to coat my pops. Decorate the pops using your favorite toppings! I used pearl and green sprinkles as well as shredded coconut (my favorite).

3. After the cake pops are fully set, place each pop in a clear treat bag. Tie each bag with a twist tie. Cut off any excess. Tie a bow with the green ribbon to cover the twist tie.

4. Using the X-Acto knife, make two small horizontal slits on the top and bottom of each printable tag. Feed the tag over the top of each cake pop stick (see photo). That’s it! Make sure to keep these cake pop favors refrigerated until the day of your wedding.

Variations:

  • These cake pops work double-duty as a favor and a place card when you write guests’ names on a plain circular tag in your choice of color. Feed the tag over the stick in the same manor.
  • These don’t just work for St. Patty’s Day! Brides with green in their wedding color scheme can use these tags any time of year.

Charity Favors for Foodies

Food Bank Charity Wedding Favor

Happy Friday! Today is the second installment in our new Charity Wedding Favors series. I am so in love with these charity favors because you can give a little something to your guests while still giving back to the community. A win-win.

These adorable cooking-themed favors are perfect for any foodie couple and are to be accompanied by a donation to your local Food Bank. And GUESS WHAT? Not only are they super cute and practical, they are also REALLY inexpensive. Talk about getting a lot of bang for your buck. Read on for a price breakdown and the how-to!

Foodie Charity Favor

What you need:

  • White or cream heavy cardstock
  • Grosgrain ribbon (your color choice)
  • Mini wire whisks
  • Mini spatulas
  • Dishcloths
  • Double-sided tape

1. Download your free, customizable “Food Bank” charity tag printable. Customize and cut out each tag. Never used our printables before? Visit our printing FAQ page to learn how to add your initials and the charity of your choice to the printables in Adobe Reader (it’s easy!).

2. Using the ribbon, tie a bow around the center of your whisk and spatula.

3. Put a small piece of double-sided tape on the back of your printable tag and affix to the ribbon. I chose to stick the tag to the cut end of my ribbon (see photo), but stick your tag wherever you like best.

4. Center a dishcloth on each place setting, and lay your assembled whisk and spatula on top. That’s it! Foodie favor heaven!

Food Bank Charity Wedding Favor

Cost breakdown:

This favor is so cute and handy, blah blah blah … but let’s talk money. ‘Cause we all know that just being cute doesn’t mean ANYTHING to a bride on a budget. For this favor, almost everything was bought at the good ol’ dollar store. And even better than that, each item came in sets. Here’s what you get:

  • Mini whisks: 2 for $1
  • Mini spatulas: 2 for $1
  • Dishcloths: 4 for $1! (These can also double as napkins to help you save on catering fees! Just make sure to wash them first.)
  • Ribbon: $2 for 3 yards
  • White cardstock: .25 cents per sheet (12 labels on a sheet)
  • Double-sided tape: FREE — the amount you use is so small it won’t make a difference on price
Grand total per favor: $1.37! (Ahem – I paid more than that for my crappy ‘Hershey kisses in a box’ favor.)

Variations:

  • So maybe your local dollar store doesn’t have whisks — no biggie! Dollar stores usually have a large selection of cooking utensils, and anything you like will work! Try looking for mini-sized utensils that come in sets to help keep your favors cost effective. We recommend special ordering your utensils so you can be sure to get enough for all of your guests (shipping to the store is usually free).
  • Color coordinate the utensils and dishcloths to match your wedding theme.
  • This favor would also be wonderful for a bridal shower and since you will have fewer guests, you could shell a little more out per person (if you wanted) and add more utensils.

Freebie Friday! Charity Favor for Dog Lovers

I am SO excited about today’s post because I absolutely LOVE charity wedding favors … when they are done correctly. Don’t get me wrong, donating to charity on behalf of your guests is an absolutely WONDERFUL idea that I am in full support of, but let’s keep it real — a charity favor presented in the wrong way can be tacky (and annoying for your guests) EVEN if it’s for a good cause. (Scroll to the bottom of this post for some guidelines to keep your charity wedding favors in check.)

While I love the idea of a donation to charity in lieu of favors, my stomach churns a little when I think about sending my family and friends home empty handed. So our new “Charity Favor” series provides the best of both worlds! We find cute, matching (and inexpensive) favors that your guests can take home and that ALSO benefits charity.

First up are these adorable sugar cookie and dog treat wedding favors to be accompanied by a donation to your local humane society. I LOVE this favor! By pairing a decorated bone-shaped sugar cookie with a homemade peanut butter dog treat — this favor will appeal to your peeps and your pooch. Read on for the how-to.

Dog Lovers Charity Favors

What you need:

  • Colored card stock (I used natural-colored recycled card stock)
  • Stapler
  • Bone-shaped cookie cutter
  • 9″ cellophane treat bags (each favor uses 2 bags)
  • Pre-baked and decorated bone-shaped sugar cookies
  • Pre-baked Peanut Butter Bites dog treats

1. Download your free, customizable ”Doggy Bag” charity tag printable. Cut out each tag and set aside (do not fold yet). Never used our printables before? Visit our printing FAQ page to learn how to customize your printables in Adobe Reader (it’s easy!).

2.  Place one dog treat in the bottom of a cellophane bag. I used this wonderful homemade Peanut Butter Bites dog treat recipe from The Bark Spot.

3. Place one bone-shaped sugar cookie  in the bottom of another cellophane bag (you don’t want to mix the human treats with dog treats). I used a basic sugar cookie recipe from AllRecipes. Once your cookies are cooled, dip them in chocolate flavored candy melts and add sprinkles – OR – feel free to decorate however you like. It is very important to decorate the cookies so it is obvious which cookie is for a human, and which is for the dog.

4. Place your two cookie-stuffed cellophane bags on top of each other. Place one bag higher than the other so your treats aren’t lying on top of each other (see photo).

5. Fold over the tops of the cellophane bags together, leaving enough room for the tag.

6. Pre-fold your cut “Doggy Bag” tags and place it on top of your folded treat bags. Secure the tag to the bags with a single staple.

Variations:

  • Consider matching these treats to your wedding colors! Dye your sugar cookies with food coloring or print the tags on a matching colored card stock.
  • Add fun ribbons or buttons to dress up the final product!

We know that each bride’s intentions are good, but a poorly thought out charity favor could make your guests feel under-appreciated.

Here are a few guidelines to keep your charity wedding favors in check:

  • ALWAYS list the charity you donated to. A card that simply reads “In lieu of a traditional wedding favor, a donation has been made in your name to charity.,” is too vague. And if we’re being real here, it just sounds like you cheapened out and didn’t want to spend any money on favors. Of COURSE, this isn’t the truth, but you don’t want to give any of your guests the opportunity to misunderstand.
  • ALWAYS donate to a charity that is widely accepted by your friends and family. I don’t think your Limbaugh-loving uncle would appreciate it if you donated to the Obama 2012 campaign on his behalf. You can’t go wrong with a charity that supports animals, youth programs, or organizations like
    Make-A-Wish or the American Cancer Society.
  • ALWAYS donate to a charity you have a personal connection to. Your guests should be able to understand why you chose the specific charity you did.
With all this said, remember to have a little fun with your favors. After all, giving should make the giver feel good, too. :)  For those of you who are giving charity favors, or have in the past: Thank YOU for your generous effort to make our world a better place. The world could use more brides like you.

vs. snail mail?

I recently just received my first RSVP online-only wedding invitation. And I have to say, it was kind of nice.

I do see the benefits of using an online RSVP for a wedding. It saves money and trees since you don’t have to deal with printed RSVP cards, envelopes and stamps. And with more couples directing guests to their wedding websites to convey travel and party details, it seems more natural for guests to respond electronically since all the other event information is online.

However, as a girl who still loves sending out thank you cards through the good old postal service, I wonder if the online RSVP takes away from the tradition of wedding invitations. I love the idea of sending out a cohesive and formal invitation suite that includes a printed RSVP card and a stamped pre-addressed envelope. Plus, printed RSVP cards ensure that your non-savvy technological guests can respond, like your dear old granny or the eccentric uncle who lives on a commune.

DIY: Glitter Clothespin Seating Chart

We’ve done it again — another glitter DIY project for you guys to put together yourselves for your wedding! Using Allison’s Freebie Friday place cards from a couple of days ago, you can paint clothespins in vibrant glitter for a custom touch in just the right color, and have your guests find their seats in style. Free Printable Place Card

I loathed worrying about place cards while in the midst of wedding planning. Why? Because place cards suck. They suck to the max. And here’s why:

A) In order to fill out all your place cards you have to have an official guest list — and there’s ALWAYS a few RSVPs you have to track down yourself. (Come on people! The RSVP envelopes were PRE-addressed and PRE-stamped! Lazy.)

B) For weddings with assigned seats, you first need a finished seating chart. And isn’t THAT just the worst? Brides have to deal with more family politics than a presidential election.

C) After finally finishing your guest list and seating chart, you’ve only got 10 days until your wedding, and the LAST thing you want to do is write 150 place cards in neat, legible script. My finished place cards looked AW-to-the-FUL.
